Not all companies use the same procedures, but The Ag Center has devised a protocol that makes the process of getting your business on the web easy and efficient. Building a web site can be done by taking the following steps:
What is a domain name and do I need one? A domain name is the unique name that you type in to bring up your web site. No two sites may have the same domain name so if you would like to know if a particular domain name is available for your company, our staff can find out for you. We highly recommend that when you consider building a web site, you use your own domain name. Typically having your own domain yields more traffic as it provides an easy way for users to remember your web site address (usually your companys name plus ".com"). An alternative to getting your own domain name is to place your companys name at the end of the "agcenter" domain which would read as follows, http://www.agcenter.com/yourcompany. What are the costs involved in setting up a site? The Ag Center charges an initial setup fee and a monthly maintenance fee. Because the nature of the work, setup for every web site differs. The Ag Center sales staff will readily give you a quote on a site custom designed to meet your business needs. Monthly maintenance fees are setup so that they adjust according to the traffic your site receives. The monthly fees cover the hosting of your site on our server machines and for the high speed T-1 lines that allow your site to be retrieved quickly. Round the clock monitoring ensures that your site may be ready for viewing at all times. Domain name registration is $120 and this fee secures any available domain name. For this two year time frame, the domain name will belong to your company and you will have the option to renew it. How will I know if anyone is visiting my site? The Ag Center provides statistical reports every month so that you may determine whether you are effectively promoting your web site and your company. How can I increase traffic to my site? Content, change, and charisma are the 3 Cs that The Ag Center recognizes in all of the most successful web sites. Content that is interesting to your target audience is essential to keeping a steady visitor base. Excessive text and loud graphics can overwhelm users. The focus should be on providing essential information in a concise and clear manner. Change is also a major factor in any successful web site. Users may visit your site one time and find it informative and useful but if they come back another time and nothing is new or different, this may be their last visit. Users like to see that a company will respond to their needs and inform them of new products or services that are being offered. Charisma is the last C and oftentimes the reason your site succeeds or fails. The Ag Center plays a vital role in this step. We offer advice on how you may layout your web site so that it is dynamic and captivating. Our policy is to create a site that is insightful, professional and aesthetically pleasing.
